The Ethnic Minorities Representatives at St Hugh’s are here to celebrate diversity and build community through a variety of events. From informal social gatherings to cultural celebrations, our events and activities are designed to help BAME students connect, share experiences, and feel fully included in college life.
Each year, two Junior Common Room (JCR) members are elected to act as a voice for BAME students. Alongside organising events, we work with the College’s student body, JCR, and College administration to promote equality, celebrate diversity, and address issues affecting minority ethnic students.
We host a wide range of events throughout the year, including:
- Social Gatherings: Informal meet-ups, cultural nights and cooking, and events to connect BAME students and build friendships.
- Celebrations and Festivals: Events for key cultural moments such as Black History Month, Lunar New Year, Diwali, Eid, and more.
- Collaborations: Joint events with other college societies or University groups to celebrate intersectional diversity and encourage broader engagement.
Our events are designed to:
- Build support networks and friendships
- Celebrate diverse student experiences
- Promote cultural understanding across the college
- Offer opportunities to learn, grow, and get involved
