Engineering Science

About the Course

So far I have found Engineering Science to be a very interesting course. It is a bit more theory based than I was expecting, but the course covers a wide range of engineering disciplines in the 1st and 2nd years before you specialise on something of your choosing. The course is super diverse and this means you learn lots of interesting things from all parts of engineering.

Engineering obviously being a STEM subject is a bit heavier on the workload but it is very manageable. I have been able to play hockey, cricket, and be on committees for 2 other societies, so you will definitely have time for yourself

My favourite part of the course is thermodynamics and engines because I am super interested to work in Formula 1.

The Application Process

My best advice for taking the PAT is to just practice as many questions as possible and remember that you don't have to answer all the questions. During the test try and focus on the questions you do know about and make those solutions as complete as possible. I felt like I had done very badly after I had sat my exam, but I was significantly relieved at the same time once I was finished.

I felt quite nervous for the interview, and once again my advice is to get as much practice as you can. For me I asked my teachers at school to host mock interviews with me and that was the best help I could get. Also, personally I think the technical interview questions are an exercise that you work through together with the tutor that is interviewing you and this is important because the tutor wants to see if you are someone they could work with. So my advice is to not think of it as the tutors being there to catch you out, but more to guide you along the right thing. Just keep explaining what your thinking is what matters most.
