Archaeology and Anthropology

About the Course:

"It's very intense and there is a lot of workload - you might find that you rarely have days for yourself unless you are a quick reader and grasp this stuff easily. My favourite part are definitely the practicals and the fieldwork during the summer. My least favourite part is Bill (read: Dr Kelly) giving you back your essays and feedback the term after, however he is excused because we all love Bill. Also Peter knows more about every single subject than you do, trust me. It is intimidating at first but you will get used to it.

Doing A&A at Hugh's though is like winning a lottery ticket - Peter is one of the best A&A tutors and he gets stuff done. He is also very understanding - as is Bill - so if you find you are struggling with the workload or you have any health issues they will help you as much as they can. However good luck if you have dog allergies, cause Luna and Falco (dogs) are always in the room." - 2nd Year

Application Process:

"It was fun but traumatic enough that I don't really remember much - I remember that one good tip was to ask them for a second so I can write down my thoughts, this helped to have a second to think and actually write down main points to talk about. Overall however had way more fun with Bill, but that's just because Bill is so chill." - 2023

Exam Advice (Prelims and FHS)

"Remember they don't matter. I got predicted 2.1 from Peter in the first year and got a 1st, he just has a really high standard but that's good and definitely pushes you to excel."
